Title : Nonlinear pattern formation of tape peeling

Abstract :

When we look closely at the peel front of the adhesives, we can find two kinds of structures. One of them is a tunnel structure which can be found in slow peeling. Then for fast peeling, the tunnel structure collapses and a without tunnel structure occurs . And at the intermediate peel speed, these two structures switch chaotic. From the experimental observation, this chaotic switching gives Sierpinski-gasket like fractal random patterns in the peel trace of the adhesive tapes[1].
In this talk, I introduce a model for the pattern formation of the peel trace by considering the deformation of the peel front based on the Newton equation, then we compare its scaling properties to the previous experimental result [2].
